How to use a Pomodoro timer for studying

  1. Choose one concrete target, such as answering 20 practice questions.
  2. Remove notifications and start the focus timer.
  3. Write distractions down instead of following them.
  4. Stop when the interval ends and take the break.
  5. After the break, retrieve what you learned before rereading.

A timer protects attention, but it does not choose a learning method. Read the Pomodoro technique study guide, pair the interval with active recall, or prepare a deck with the text-to-flashcards tool.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro study method?
It alternates a focused work interval with a short break. A common pattern is 25 minutes of study and 5 minutes of rest, followed by a longer break after four focus sessions.
Is 25 minutes the best study interval?
It is a starting point, not a rule. Dense problem solving may suit a longer block, while a difficult start may be easier with 15 minutes. Choose a length you can protect from interruptions.
Should I study during the break?
Use the break to stand, drink water or rest your eyes. Continuing to read usually turns the break into a less focused study period.
Does the timer upload my study data?
No. The timer runs in your browser. Reloading or closing the page resets the current session.
