Text to flashcards converter

Paste your notes, get flashcards. This splits your text on the pattern you already used, whether that is Q and A lines, tabs, dashes, colons or alternating lines. Edit anything that came out wrong, then export to CSV, to Anki, or straight to your printer.

Nothing you paste leaves this page. The parsing runs in your browser.

Looks at your text and picks the pattern below that fits best.

Parsed

3 cards

Detected format: Q: and A: lines. Override it on the left if that is wrong.

  2. 2
  3. 3

Both exports write one card per line with no header row. The Anki file is tab separated, the CSV is comma separated and quoted where a field needs it.

The five patterns it understands

There is no model reading your notes here. Each format is a string split you can predict, which means you can fix a bad result by changing the separator rather than rewording your notes.

Q: and A: lines

Lines starting with Q: are fronts, lines starting with A: are backs.

Q: What is osmosis?
A: Movement of solvent across a semipermeable membrane.

Tab separated

Front, a tab, then back. This is what a spreadsheet column pair pastes as.

Osmosis	Movement of solvent across a semipermeable membrane

Dash separated

Front, a spaced dash, then back.

Osmosis - movement of solvent across a semipermeable membrane

Colon separated

Front, a colon, then back. Splits on the first colon only.

Osmosis: movement of solvent across a semipermeable membrane

Alternating lines

Line one is a front, line two is its back, and so on.

Automatic detection runs these checks in order, from the most explicit marker to the least. Q and A lines win outright when both markers are present. After that it needs half the lines to carry the separator before it commits, and falls back to alternating lines when nothing else fits.

Importing into Anki, Quizlet or a spreadsheet

Anki. Download the Anki file, then in Anki choose File, then Import. Set the field separator to Tab, pick the note type and deck you want, and map field 1 to Front and field 2 to Back. Tabs and line breaks inside a card are flattened to spaces on export so a card can never split across two rows.

Quizlet. Use Import from the deck creation screen, paste the CSV contents, and set the term and definition separator to comma and the row separator to new line.

Excel or Google Sheets. Open the CSV directly. Fields containing a comma, a quote mark or a line break are quoted to the standard CSV rules, so nothing shifts a column.

Paper. Print sends the preview list to your printer with the page furniture stripped out, which is a reasonable revision sheet on its own.

Frequently asked questions

How does this turn text into flashcards without AI?
It looks for the separator you already used when writing your notes. Q: and A: lines, a tab between two columns, a spaced dash, a colon, or fronts and backs on alternating lines. Each pattern is a simple string split, so the result is predictable and you can see exactly why a card came out the way it did.
What format should I paste?
Any of the five listed above. Leave the format on automatic and the page will pick the one that best fits your text, then tell you which it chose. If it guesses wrong, override it from the dropdown.
Can I fix a card before exporting?
Yes. Every parsed card is editable in the preview, and you can delete any card or add a blank one. The exports use whatever is in the preview at the time you click.
How do I import the file into Anki?
Download the Anki TSV export, then in Anki choose File, then Import, pick the file, set the field separator to Tab, and map field 1 to Front and field 2 to Back. The export writes one card per line with no header row.
Does the CSV work with Quizlet and spreadsheets?
Yes. The CSV is standard comma separated text with no header row, quoted where a field contains a comma or a quote mark, so it opens cleanly in Excel, Google Sheets and Quizlet's import box.
Is anything I paste uploaded?
No. Parsing, editing, exporting and printing all happen in your browser. Your notes never leave the page and no account is required.

When your notes have no pattern to split on

Pattern matching needs you to have written in pairs already. FORKSAI reads unstructured notes, lecture slides and PDFs and writes the question and answer pairs for you, then schedules the review.
